Baskets of this quality were usually a collaboration of many different hands and it is often difficult to distinguish the different individuals. This engraving on this piece, however, can be fairly confidently attributed to the work of Charles Gardner, based on a signed sealed salver supplied by White to Lord Chancellor King in 1728. Gardner has signed the engraving on the salver, which incorporates the same distinctively combined foliage and strapwork also seen on this basket.

Information derived from T. Schroder, British and Continental Gold and Silver in the Ashmolean (2009)
